StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart Buying Guide: Price, Condition and Code

Abstract cover for a StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart buying guide: one closed book with a sealed card beside it, next to faded open books with no card
A StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart order is a good deal only if the access code inside has never been used. Most of what you pay for is the one-time code in the back of the book, which unlocks Gallup’s online assessment. A pre-owned copy almost always arrives with that code spent. Below are the real prices, how to read the listing, and the fix if the code fails.

What a StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart Listing Costs and Buys

Walmart sells Tom Rath’s StrengthsFinder 2.0 on one main hardcover listing, and that listing shows two very different prices on the same page. One is for a new copy. The other is for pre-owned copies, sorted by condition. The gap is wide enough that the cheap offer looks like an easy win. For most buyers it is not, because of the small card in the back.

New and pre-owned prices on the Walmart listing

When we checked in October 2026, a new copy that Walmart itself sold was listed at $26.79 on the Walmart StrengthsFinder 2.0 listing. Pre-owned copies on the same page started well under $5, with “like new” at $4.68 and “good” at $4.44. A month earlier, our own check had the new copy near $23, so expect the number to drift by a few dollars from one week to the next. The listing carried a 4.6 out of 5 rating from about 70 reviews.

For context, the price printed on the jacket is $49.99. Walmart’s new price sits at roughly half of that, which is normal for this title at the big retailers.

Here is what each of those prices buys:

  • New, sold by Walmart: the hardcover, plus a sealed card holding one unused access code for Gallup’s CliftonStrengths assessment. The code gets you your Top 5 themes.
  • Pre-owned, any condition: the hardcover. The code card may be missing, opened, or already redeemed by whoever owned the book first.

That second line is the one to care about. The StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart price worth comparing is the price of a working code. Gallup sells this Top 5 code by itself for $24.99 on its CliftonStrengths product page. So a new copy at $26.79 is, in effect, the code plus a hardcover for about two dollars more. A $4.68 used copy gets you the chapters to read, and nothing more.

If you only want Rath’s chapters on the 34 themes, the used copy is a fine buy and you can stop here. If the assessment is what you are after, read the next two sections before anything goes in your cart.

Dot plot of StrengthsFinder 2.0 prices: Walmart pre-owned $4.44 and $4.68, Gallup Top 5 code $24.99, Walmart new $26.79, jacket list $49.99
A new copy from Walmart costs about the same as buying the Gallup code by itself, pre-owned copies are cheap, and the price on the jacket is far higher than any of them

New vs. Pre-Owned StrengthsFinder 2.0: Which Walmart Listing Should You Buy

On the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart product page, the main price box usually shows one offer at the top. Other offers, including pre-owned copies and outside sellers, sit in a separate list further down, each with its own condition and seller name. Two details on each offer tell you nearly everything you need: who is selling it, and what condition it is listed in.

Sold by Walmart vs. a Walmart Marketplace seller

Walmart runs two kinds of selling on the same page. Some offers read “Sold and shipped by Walmart.com.” Others come from outside businesses that list through Walmart Marketplace, and the offer names that business. Both can be perfectly honest. They are not equally simple to sort out when a code proves bad.

Sold and shipped by Walmart.com

Walmart stocks the copy and ships it. Walmart’s own return rules apply, and if the code card is missing you deal with one company through your order page.

Sold by a Marketplace seller

An outside business lists the copy and often ships it too. That seller sets the return terms, which appear on the offer, so read them before you pay.

For this book, a new Walmart-sold copy is the safest single pick if you want a working code. Walmart does not promise that every code works. The reason is where the copy came from: new stock nobody has opened, with one large company answerable if something is wrong. A Marketplace seller offering a new copy can be just as good, especially one with years of book sales behind it and plenty of recent reviews. It is one more thing for you to check.

How to tell if your Walmart copy is new or already used

Most of the answer is on the listing, before you buy:

  1. Read the condition on the exact offer you are choosing. The photo at the top of the page is the same stock image for every offer, new or used.
  2. Read the seller line. It will say Walmart.com or name a Marketplace seller.
  3. Look for the words “access code” in the offer notes. A careful seller of used copies will write “code used” or “code not guaranteed.” If a pre-owned offer promises an unused code, ask the seller how they know.
  4. Check the return terms on that offer. You want a way out if the code fails.

The day it arrives, open the back of the book. New copies keep the code card in a sealed envelope there. If the seal is broken, the card is gone, or someone has written notes in the margins, treat the code as spent until Gallup’s site tells you otherwise.

A pre-owned copy is the right buy only when you never planned to take the assessment from that book. Plenty of people are in that spot. Maybe you took CliftonStrengths at work years ago, your manager already handed out codes, or you want a second copy for the office shelf. For everyone else, the twenty dollars saved on the book tends to come back as a $24.99 code bought later.

Buying several copies for a team or class

If you are ordering for a group, buy every copy new, from one seller, in one order. Mixed orders are where a spent code slips through. For larger groups, booksellers that specialize in bulk orders are worth a look. BookPal takes 42% off the $49.99 list price for one to four copies, with bigger discounts as the order grows. Compare that per-copy price against Walmart’s new price on the day, and against Gallup’s $24.99 per code if nobody on the team will read the book.

Four steps for checking a Walmart StrengthsFinder 2.0 offer: read the condition, read the seller, look for an access code note, check the return terms
Checking the condition, the seller, any access code note, and the return terms, in that order, tells you whether a listing is likely to include a working code.

The Access Code Risk to Check Before You Buy at Walmart

Each new StrengthsFinder 2.0 holds a single access code, and each code works one time. When the first owner redeems it on Gallup’s site, the code is tied to that person’s account and results. After that, the book still works as a book. The code does not work again for anyone.

The author’s site says every copy includes “a unique access code” to use on Gallup’s site. Unique is the word that matters there. It means one person, one time.

That is why reviews at nearly every retailer complain about used copies with spent codes. At ThriftBooks, where used copies start at $5.69, one reviewer warns that anyone buying for a class “will need to buy a new copy” because of the one-time code. Reviews on Walmart’s own listing raise the same point. Nobody is hiding anything: the code was always meant for the first reader.

If the assessment is the reason for your StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart order, buy new, check the seal the day the book arrives, and enter the code while you can still send the book back.

Timing matters. Leave the envelope sealed until a workshop months away, and the return window may close first. Entering the code the week the book arrives tells you at once whether it works, while a return is still easy. You do not have to answer every question that same day.

The Kindle edition: a code that cannot be used before you get it

There is one version with no used-code risk at all: the Kindle ebook. It has no card in the back. Instead, the code comes by email after you buy. Gallup’s e-book page says that when an e-book purchase includes an access code, Gallup emails you the code and how to redeem it. For a Kindle copy, that email goes to the address on your Amazon account.

On October 23, 2026, the Kindle edition was $20.99 on Amazon, less than Gallup’s $24.99 code alone. The code is issued fresh for each sale, so nobody can have used it before you. You just get no paper book. If the email does not arrive within a day, check spam, then contact Gallup support with your order number.

Fixing a StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart access code that won’t work

If Gallup’s site rejects your code or reports it as redeemed, work through these steps in order:

  1. Check your typing. Codes mix letters and numbers, and an O and a 0 look alike on the card. Our guide to entering a Gallup code and fixing errors explains the common messages.
  2. Go back to the seller. If the listing said new and the code was spent, the copy was not as described. Under Walmart’s return policy, most items Walmart sells can come back within 90 days, and books are not on its list of shorter windows. Most Marketplace sellers give 30 days. Start the return from your order page. Walmart says opened items can often be returned, and its policy does not single out code cards, so an opened envelope alone should not block it. Keep the card and say the code was already redeemed.
  3. Ask Gallup support to look at the code. They can tell you whether it was redeemed. Do not count on a free replacement for a code that another person already used.
  4. Buy the code by itself. If the return falls through and you still need results this week, the Top 5 code costs $24.99 from Gallup, and you keep the book.

Thinking of a second code to retake it? See our piece on retaking the StrengthsFinder test.

Decision fork for a used StrengthsFinder access code: if the copy was sold as new, return it; if it was sold as used, buy the code from Gallup
If Gallup says your access code was already used, return the copy if it was sold as new, otherwise buy the Top 5 code directly from Gallup.

Walmart vs. Amazon vs. the Gallup Store: Where StrengthsFinder 2.0 Actually Costs Less

Most people weighing a StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart purchase open Walmart and Amazon in two tabs, then wonder whether Gallup’s own store is cheaper still. Here is that comparison in one table, using prices from our checks in September and October 2026. Read the book prices as a range, since they shift every week.

Where you buy Price we saw What you get Code risk
Walmart, new, sold by Walmart $26.79 in October, near $23 in September Hardcover plus one unused Top 5 code Low
Walmart, pre-owned $4.44 to $4.68 Hardcover, code almost certainly spent High
Amazon, new, October 23 $17.33 from an outside seller (Amazon itself had no new offer) Book and a Top 5 code, if truly new Medium: check the seller
Amazon, Kindle edition $20.99 Ebook, with a fresh Top 5 code sent by email None
ThriftBooks, used From $5.69 Hardcover, code almost certainly spent High
ThriftBooks, new $33.80 Book and one Top 5 code Low
BookPal, new, one to four copies $28.99 (42% off the $49.99 list) Book and one Top 5 code Low
Gallup, Top 5 code alone $24.99 Top 5 assessment and report, no book None
Gallup, all 34 themes $59.99 All 34 themes ranked, no book None

When Walmart is the cheapest place to buy it

The StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart listing wins on a given day when its new price is below both Amazon’s new price and Gallup’s $24.99 for the code alone. Since a new book and a bare code cost about the same, the tie-breaker comes down to one question: do you want the hardcover?

  • Yes, you want the book. Buy whichever new copy is cheapest that day, at Walmart or Amazon, and check the seller line.
  • No, you only want results. Get the code straight from Gallup. You skip the shipping, the wait, and the risk of a spent code.

When a new copy costs less than $24.99, buying the book is the cheapest way to get your Top 5. When it costs more, you are paying extra for the paper.

Walmart has two practical edges. Its 90-day window for items it sells itself gives you plenty of time to test the code. And its pre-owned offers carry clear condition labels, which makes the cheap trap easy to spot once you know to look. Amazon tends to have more sellers to choose from and, some weeks, the lower price. For that side, see our Amazon StrengthsFinder buying guide. For each Gallup report and upgrade, see what every StrengthsFinder 2.0 option costs.

One more thing the table shows: if you want all 34 themes, the book is a detour. A new copy gets you the Top 5, and moving up to the full ranking costs another $49.99 inside your Gallup account. Gallup sells all 34 in one step for $59.99.

Bar chart of new StrengthsFinder 2.0 prices against the bare code: Amazon $17.33, Gallup Top 5 code $24.99, Walmart $26.79, BookPal $28.99, ThriftBooks $33.80
A new copy of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book costs about the same as buying the Gallup Top 5 code by itself, except the cheapest Amazon listing undercuts the code.

What’s Inside the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Box From Walmart

StrengthsFinder 2.0 is a small hardcover, so the box is just the shipping carton. A new copy from the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart listing holds two parts that matter, and it pays to know which one carries the price.

The book
Tom Rath’s short introduction to strengths, then one chapter for each of Gallup’s 34 themes, from Achiever to Woo. Each chapter describes the theme and offers ideas for putting it to work.
The code card
A sealed envelope inside the back cover holding one access code. This is what lets you take the assessment online.

The question most buyers have is whether the code is still inside. In a new copy, it is. As far as we could find, Walmart does not sell the CliftonStrengths code on its own. It only comes inside the book.

Everything that comes with the access code

The code in the book unlocks CliftonStrengths Top 5, the same product Gallup sells for $24.99. Once you redeem it and answer the questions, Gallup gives you:

  • The CliftonStrengths assessment itself, taken online
  • Your five strongest themes, in order
  • Strengths insights written from your own answers
  • A definition of each of your five themes
  • Action items for putting them to use

Missing from it is the rest of your ranking. Themes six through 34, the blind-spot pages, and the advice on lesser strengths sit in the full CliftonStrengths 34 report, a $49.99 upgrade from inside your account. A new copy from Walmart gets you the book and your Top 5, while the other 29 themes cost extra.

Gallup keeps your results in your online account. If you forget where to sign back in later, our page on where to sign in to Gallup shows the way. And if you are buying the book as a gift, keep it sealed. Whoever enters the code owns the results, so an opened envelope can spoil the gift.

Grid of what each StrengthsFinder purchase includes: new Walmart copy has book and Top 5, pre-owned has the book only, Gallup code has Top 5, Gallup 34 ranks all themes
Only a new book bought from Walmart comes with both the printed book and a still-working access code.

If You Just Want the Strengths Assessment, You Don’t Have to Buy the Book

Some people looking at the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart listing do not want the book at all. They want the test, and the book is simply the cheapest package it comes in. If that is you, buying the $24.99 code straight from Gallup is the clean way to take CliftonStrengths with no gamble on a used card.

Before you buy either, ask what the results are for, because that decides which test deserves your money.

CliftonStrengths does one thing well. It puts names to the talents that come most naturally to you, in a shared language that a lot of teams and managers already speak. If your company, coach, or class has asked you to bring your Top 5, take CliftonStrengths. Nothing else stands in for it, and nothing on this page should talk you out of it.

CliftonStrengths names your talents. It does not hand you a list of jobs. Many people buy the book at a turning point, hoping five themes will say what to do next, and end up with a list of talents and no direction attached. That is a fair limit of the tool. It was built to answer a different question.

A way to skip the book and the access-code gamble entirely

If what you want to know is which kind of work to move toward, a career test taken online is the more direct route, and there is no code card to go wrong. We make one, so weigh this with that in mind. It is called the Pigment career test. It works by forced choice. One question might ask whether you would rather finish a piece of work alone or hand parts of it to a team, and you cannot have both.

You can be very good at something and still dread doing it all day: running meetings, chasing details, selling. Pigment’s report keeps two things apart: the work you are good at and the days you would gladly repeat. It also suggests kinds of work to look into, each tied back to your own answers. It costs $79, paid once.

It is not a replacement for CliftonStrengths. If someone asked for your Top 5, they want Gallup’s language, and Pigment will not give it to them. If you like your work and want a shared vocabulary for your team, CliftonStrengths is the better buy. Pigment is for someone weighing a change, a new role, or why a good job has started to feel wrong.

Before You Order StrengthsFinder 2.0 From Walmart

The questions buyers ask most about the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Walmart listing, answered short.

“How much does Strengthsfinder 2.0 cost at Walmart?”

In October 2026 a new Walmart-sold copy was $26.79, and pre-owned copies started around $4.44. The new price moves by a few dollars from week to week, so check the exact offer you pick.

“Is the Strengthsfinder 2.0 book at Walmart new or used?”

Both are sold on the same product page. The condition label and the seller name on each offer tell you which one you are getting, and only a new copy should carry an unused access code.

“What happens if the Strengthsfinder 2.0 access code has already been used?”

It will not work for you, because each code works one time. Return the book if it was sold as new, and if you still need results, buy the Top 5 code from Gallup for $24.99.

“Is Strengthsfinder 2.0 cheaper at Walmart than Amazon?”

Some weeks it is and some weeks it is not. On October 23, 2026, a new copy on Amazon was $17.33 from an outside seller, against $26.79 sold by Walmart. Prices move weekly, so compare the exact offers that day.

“What do you get with the Strengthsfinder 2.0 access code?”

One CliftonStrengths Top 5 assessment: your five strongest themes in order, insights written from your answers, a short definition of every theme, and action items. Ranking all 34 themes costs extra.
