StrengthsFinder 2.0 Price at a Glance (2026)
Here is every way to pay for it, with the price Gallup and the big booksellers listed when we checked in September 2026. The CliftonStrengths price on Gallup's side comes straight from its product comparison page. The book prices come from the retailers named further down.
| Route | Price (September 2026) | What you get | Cheapest route for |
|---|---|---|---|
| StrengthsFinder 2.0 book, new, discounted | About $15 to $26 | Hardcover book plus one Top 5 code | Your Top 5 on a budget |
| StrengthsFinder 2.0 book at list price | $49.99 | The same book and code | No one; shop below list |
| StrengthsFinder 2.0 ebook | $49.99 list, often discounted | Ebook plus one Top 5 code | Reading on a screen |
| Gallup CliftonStrengths Top 5 | $24.99 | Top 5 report, theme definitions, action items | Top 5 with no book |
| Gallup CliftonStrengths 34 | $59.99 | Your full ranking of 34, plus blind spots and lesser strengths | Anyone who will want all 34 |
| Top 5 upgraded to all 34 | $49.99 | The rest of your ranking, no retest | People who already hold a Top 5 |
| Managers, Leaders or Sales report | $49.99 each | A report written for that role | One specific job |
| CliftonStrengths for Students | $24.99 | A report written for students | Students whose school does not pay |
Read the table from the right-hand column. Want only your top five themes? Then a new book bought below list is usually the cheapest way in, because it carries the same Top 5 code Gallup sells for $24.99 and adds a printed guide.
Want the full ranking someday? Then read the Top 5 vs 34 section before you buy anything. The order you buy in changes the total.
One warning about the numbers you will see elsewhere. Plenty of guides still list the Top 5 at $19.99 and all 34 at $49.99. Gallup has raised both. If a page gives those figures, it was written before the change, and its other advice may be dated too.
Is It Officially Called StrengthsFinder, CliftonStrengths, or StrengthsFinder 2.0?
Three labels, a single test. Gallup built the original online test, called it StrengthsFinder, and in 2007 released a revised version alongside a book by Tom Rath titled StrengthsFinder 2.0 (Wikipedia keeps the timeline). Gallup later renamed the test CliftonStrengths, after Don Clifton, the psychologist who led the research behind it.
The book never changed its title, so bookstores still sell StrengthsFinder 2.0 while Gallup's store sells CliftonStrengths. When you redeem the code from the book, you land on Gallup's site and take the current CliftonStrengths test. Same questions, same 34 themes, same report. Nothing about the older name means an older or cheaper test.

StrengthsFinder 2.0 Book Price: Where to Buy and What It Includes
Printed on the jacket, StrengthsFinder 2.0 lists at $49.99. Barnes & Noble lists the hardcover at that full price. Very few people pay it.
Big retailers usually sell new copies well below list. In our check on September 23, 2026, new copies ran from about $15 to $26 at Amazon and Walmart, with Walmart near $23. Target sat a little higher that day, at $28.75. Prices move weekly, so treat that range as a guide and check again before you order.
That gap matters because of what you are buying. The access code inside is the part that costs money, and on its own it is worth $24.99 at Gallup. So a new book at $20 is a Top 5 code with a free book attached. At $49.99 it is a Top 5 code with a $25 book attached, which is a poor trade unless you want the hardcover for its own sake.
What Does the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Book Contain?
The hardcover runs about 175 pages, the count Target lists. Inside sit 34 brief theme write-ups, plus a sealed card or envelope holding one access code. BookPal's listing spells out what the code gets you: the online test, a report on your top five themes, a planning guide and fifty action ideas, ten per theme.
The chapters on the other 29 themes are there so you can read about the people around you. Where those 29 land in your own ranking stays hidden. The book covers the Top 5 only, and the full ranking always costs extra.
So does StrengthsFinder 2.0 include an access code? A new copy does, always. A used copy may hold a card that looks untouched and still fails, which gets its own section below.
Where Can I Buy the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Book?
You can buy it new from Amazon, Walmart, Target, Barnes & Noble, Gallup's own store, and bulk sellers such as BookPal. Three habits keep the price down and the code working:
- Buy from a listing that says new and is sold by the retailer itself, not a marketplace seller with a vague condition note.
- Compare the book against Gallup's $24.99 Top 5 code. If the book costs more than that, buy the code directly unless you want the printed guide.
- Look for the words "with access code" in the listing. Gallup Press printings carry it, and the ISBN 9781595620156 marks the standard hardcover. Our guide to that ISBN covers editions in more detail.
StrengthsFinder 2.0 Ebook vs Hardcover Price
The ebook and the hardcover share the same $49.99 list price and both come with one Top 5 code. BookPal's ebook page states that a unique code is included with each ebook, and its discounts on the ebook run deeper, from 58% to 66% off list, against 42% to 55% on the hardcover.
So the StrengthsFinder ebook vs hardcover price question usually tips toward the ebook when you buy several copies, and toward whichever is cheaper that week when you buy one. Some digital stores send the code by email after the purchase instead of inside the file. Before you pay, check that the listing says the code is included, and keep the receipt in case it never arrives.

StrengthsFinder 2.0 Price for Top 5 vs All 34
| How you reach all 34 themes | What you pay in total |
|---|---|
| Buy CliftonStrengths 34 from Gallup | $59.99 |
| A $20 book, then the $49.99 upgrade | About $69.99 |
| Gallup Top 5 at $24.99, then the $49.99 upgrade | $74.98 |
The math is plain once it sits in one place. Buying Top 5 first and upgrading later costs more unless your Top 5 was free or nearly free.
Here is the fact that saves the most money on this page: you sit one test whichever report you choose. Both reports come from one set of answers. Gallup can show you the rest of your ranking later without asking you to sit the test again. Gallup sells that as the upgrade.
What changes is the report. With Top 5 you see only your highest five themes, each with a definition and action items. The CliftonStrengths 34 price of $59.99 adds your full ranking from 1 to 34, the themes you lean on least, notes on blind spots, and how your themes spread across Gallup's four domains.
| In the report | Top 5 | All 34 |
|---|---|---|
| Themes shown | Your top five only | All 34, ranked 1 to 34 |
| Blind spots | Not covered | Notes on blind spots and the themes you lean on least |
| Domains | Not shown | How your themes spread across Gallup's four domains |
| Action items | For your five themes | Across your full ranking |
| Price | $24.99, or the code in a new book | $59.99, or $49.99 as an upgrade |
Should I Take the Top 5 or All 34 StrengthsFinder Assessment?
So the question is whether you will ever want the full ranking. Three signs say yes. Your team or manager uses CliftonStrengths 34 in workshops. You are working with a coach trained in Gallup's method, who will almost certainly ask for the full list. Or you are the kind of reader who finishes a report and wants to know what came sixth.
If none of those fit, stopping at five is fine. Many people read their five themes, find them useful, and never think about the other 29 again. For them the cheapest path is a discounted book or the $24.99 code, and that is the end of the spending.
The CliftonStrengths 34 Upgrade Cost Is $49.99, and It Rarely Saves Money
The CliftonStrengths 34 upgrade cost is $49.99 on Gallup's store. You buy it inside the Gallup account where your first five results already sit, and the complete report appears without a retest. For someone who already has a Top 5, that is the right move: $49.99 for the upgrade beats $59.99 for a fresh test, and it keeps your original answers.
For someone starting from zero, the upgrade is a poor deal. It only makes sense if the Top 5 came almost free, say through an employer or a book someone gave you. If you are weighing the upgrade against a second sitting, our piece on retaking StrengthsFinder walks through when a retake is worth it.

Is a Cheap or Used StrengthsFinder 2.0 Worth the Price?
A secondhand StrengthsFinder 2.0 can cost $5 on a marketplace, which looks like a bargain next to $24.99. It usually is not one.
Each code works once, for one person, and most people who buy the book buy it to take the test. A secondhand copy is most likely a book with a spent code inside it, which leaves you buying a new code anyway, at a total above what a new book would have cost.
Can You Use a Code From a Used StrengthsFinder 2.0 Book?
It depends on one thing you cannot see from a listing photo: whether the previous owner typed it in. A card that looks clean proves little, because many readers redeem the code and then tuck the card back in the book.
If you still want to try a secondhand code, check these five things before you pay:
- The listing says the code is unused. Get the seller to say so in a message. "Like new" describes the paper, not the code.
- The envelope or card is still sealed. Ask for a photo of the seal. A torn or reglued flap means the code has been seen.
- The seller offers a refund if the code fails. Without that, you carry all the risk.
- You redeem it on the day it arrives. If Gallup's site says the code is already used, you are still inside the return window.
- You know the age of the copy does not matter. An unused code does not expire, so a genuinely sealed old copy can still work. What kills a code is use, not time.
Where a used copy does make sense: when you only want to read the book. If your employer is already paying for your code, or you took the test years ago, a $5 copy gives you the theme chapters, handy for reading up on your colleagues' results. Just do not count on the code.
Library copies fall in the same bucket. Libraries lend the book, and the code inside was used long ago by whoever checked it out first.

StrengthsFinder 2.0 Price for Teams, Schools, and Coaching
Buying for a group changes the math, because bulk discounts on the book start to compete with Gallup's own code prices. The StrengthsFinder 2.0 bulk price for teams at BookPal steps down as the order grows:
| Copies ordered at BookPal | Discount off $49.99 list | Price per book |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | 42% | About $29 |
| 5 to 99 | 44% | About $28 |
| 100 to 249 | 46% | About $27 |
| 250 to 999 | 51% | About $24.50 |
| 1,000 or more | 55% | About $22.50 |
Read that against Gallup's $24.99 Top 5 code. A team of ten pays about $28 a head for books and $24.99 a head for bare codes, so the book only wins if people will read it.
Most team workshops also run on the full 34, which puts the real per-person cost at $59.99 whichever way the Top 5 was bought. If you are planning the session itself, our StrengthsFinder team exercise guide covers what to do once everyone has results.
Role Reports: CliftonStrengths for Managers, Leaders, and Sales at $49.99
The CliftonStrengths for Managers price is $49.99, and the Leaders and Sales reports cost the same. Each one reads your results through the lens of that job. They need a completed test behind them, so a manager starting from scratch pays for the test and the role report. The Students report is $24.99, and many universities buy codes in bulk for incoming classes, so a student should ask before paying anything.
How Much Does a StrengthsFinder Certification Cost?
Becoming a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach is a different purchase altogether. Gallup's coaching courses page describes the main route as a course of four and a half days that includes two coaching kits valued at $990, and it asks you to contact Gallup for the price.
Certification makes sense for people who plan to coach others for a living. For understanding your own results, a single session with a certified coach costs far less than certifying yourself.
The Cheapest Legitimate Way to Pay the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Price
The cheapest way to take StrengthsFinder depends on what you want the results for. Match the purchase to the goal, not to the lowest number in the table:
- You are curious about yourself
- A new book priced under $24.99, or Gallup's $24.99 Top 5 code if the book costs more that week. Stop there unless the report leaves you wanting more.
- Your team runs CliftonStrengths workshops
- Ask whether your employer pays first, since many do. If you are paying, buy all 34 at $59.99, because the session will almost certainly use the full ranking.
- You already have a Top 5
- Pay $49.99 for the upgrade inside your existing Gallup account. Do not buy a new book to start over.
- You want help choosing a career
- Read the next section before you spend anything. The StrengthsFinder 2.0 price buys a clear picture of your talents. A career decision needs more than that.
Whatever the goal, skip one purchase: a used book bought for its code. The saving is a few dollars, and the loss when the code fails is the whole price of a new one.
Is There a Free Version of the StrengthsFinder Test?
Is StrengthsFinder free? Not from Gallup. Gallup does not give the test away, and its site offers no free code.
The ways people take it without paying all involve someone else buying the code: an employer running a team program, a university giving codes to students, or a coach who includes one in their fee. Our guide to free StrengthsFinder access codes lists the routes worth checking.
Free lookalike tests exist, such as HIGH5 and VIA's character strengths survey. They are separate tests with their own lists of strengths, so they do not give you CliftonStrengths results and your themes will not line up one to one with Gallup's. That can be fine if you want a first look before you spend $24.99. Our HIGH5 vs StrengthsFinder comparison explains how far that first look goes.

What the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Price Won't Buy You for a Career Decision
Whether you pay $24.99 or $59.99, you get a ranked list of talent themes, such as Achiever, Strategic or Empathy, with advice on using them. That is useful. It shows the patterns you fall into when nobody is steering you, and many people read their five themes and recognize themselves at once.
Matching you to work is outside its job. CliftonStrengths was built to help people develop their talents in whatever job they hold, and Gallup presents it that way. Picking your next line of work was never part of its brief.
It also ranks only strengths, so it says little about the kinds of work that would slowly wear you out. Two colleagues who share a top five can be happy in very different jobs, and the report cannot tell either of them which one to pick.
If the reason you are pricing StrengthsFinder is a career choice, look at a test made for that choice. Ours is the Pigment career test.
The questions come in pairs, and you pick one side each time. You come away knowing which work plays to your strengths and which you could keep up for years without running down. It ends with a list of job families to look at first. It costs $79.99, a little more than all 34 themes from Gallup.
It is the wrong buy in two cases. If your team speaks in CliftonStrengths themes, get the Gallup report so you share the language. And if you want a strengths test with decades of research behind it, that is also Gallup. The academic research on Pigment's own questionnaire is still being done. Treat its job list as one input, alongside an hour with someone already in the job.
Paying for StrengthsFinder to choose a career?
Your top five says what comes naturally. For $79.99, Pigment sets that beside the kind of working week you could keep up for years, and lists the jobs worth looking at first.

Does the StrengthsFinder 2.0 price cover the online test, or only the book?
Both, if the copy is new. Every new book and ebook comes with one access code for the online CliftonStrengths test and a Top 5 report. The code works once, for one person.
Is a Top 5 code plus the upgrade ever cheaper than buying all 34?
Only when you already own the Top 5. Starting from nothing, Top 5 at $24.99 plus the $49.99 upgrade comes to $74.98, against $59.99 for all 34 bought at once.
Can two people share the code in one StrengthsFinder 2.0 book?
No. The code is redeemed once, and the report is tied to the account that used it. A couple or a team needs one new book or one Gallup code per person.
Why do some sites still quote $19.99 and $49.99 for StrengthsFinder?
Those were Gallup's older prices. The Top 5 is now $24.99 and all 34 is $59.99, so a page quoting the old figures has not been updated.
Does a student pay less for CliftonStrengths?
Not much. CliftonStrengths for Students costs $24.99, the same as a regular Top 5. Many universities buy codes for their students, so check with your school before you pay.
Is there a free version of StrengthsFinder?
Not from Gallup. The test is free only when someone else buys the code, such as an employer, a university, or a coach. Free lookalikes like HIGH5 exist, but they are separate tests and do not give CliftonStrengths results.
How much does StrengthsFinder certification cost?
Gallup does not publish a flat price. Its main coach certification is a course of four and a half days that includes two coaching kits valued at $990, and Gallup asks you to contact it for the full price.
Where can I buy StrengthsFinder 2.0?
New copies sell at Amazon, Walmart, Target, Barnes & Noble, Gallup's own store and bulk sellers such as BookPal. Buy a new copy sold by the retailer itself so the access code inside is unused.
