How to run a Superpower icebreaker so a new team reads each other fast

20 min· Superpower

You've pulled a new team together and they don't know each other yet. A lap of names and titles slides off by lunch. You want them reading each other fast, and enjoying it.

Each person walked in with the answer, and hasn't shown it. Their Superpower results gave them a one-page Team Trading Card of what they're rare at, plus a System or two. On its own it introduces one person at a time.

Turn the cards into a game. Post them with names off and let the team guess whose is whose. Guessing makes everyone read every card rather than nodding through introductions. Being wrong is the point: "wait, THAT's you" is where a stranger becomes someone you know.

Before the room. Ask everyone to pull their Team Trading Card and send it to you. Take the names off, number them, and pin them where the team can see.

Minutes 0 to 3: set it up. One rule: no claiming your own card, no tells. Everyone reads all the cards.

Minutes 3 to 12: guess. Each person matches every card to a name, on paper if the team's shy, out loud if they're game. Scale the clock to team size.

Minutes 12 to 17: reveal. One card at a time, the owner claims it, reads the one Superpower that's most them, and gives one example. No speeches, one line.

Minutes 17 to 20: close. Quick lap while the cards are fresh: who would you go to for what? Keep it light.

You walk out with a run-ready icebreaker for every team you stand up, and the team walks out reading each other on day one instead of over a slow quarter.
