Nothing is missing in this student. What's missing is a map.

Career know-how gets handed down at home: which internships count, who to email, how an office works. That gap closes with what they learn. It was never a gap in ability.

The fix is one through-line, from what this student already carries. Two sections of their Career Discovery report draw it.

• Discovering Your Strengths names what's already theirs. Strengths travel: a family role, a first job, a hard class, and whatever comes next.
• Aligned Work Areas turns that into concrete ground: real fields, common titles, and internships to look up.

Now build the line, with the student:

1. Start from what transfers. Read their top strengths back. Ask which they've leaned on longest. Name them as already theirs, not borrowed.

2. Draw the line forward. Take the strengths they own most and open Aligned Work Areas. Find where that work already lives, as fields and titles, not one perfect job.

3. Make the map clear. Write it as one line they keep: what is mine, where it points, my first step. A path they can see stops feeling like zero.

4. Make room for the guilt. If it's in the room, name it and let it sit. The through-line helps: they are the same person, and this step continues them, not a break from home.

5. Land on one first step. One email to a professor, one internship title to look up, one person already in their corner to ask. The first thread of a network they get to build.

The student leaves holding their through-line. You held the structure that let a from-scratch path read as a continuation, not a cliff.
