The Aptitude Test Ernst and Young Sends Arrives in Three Parts
There is no single EY aptitude test. What arrives is a sequence: timed reasoning tests, a behavioural component with no right answers, and, on the global route, a recorded job simulation. Each part of the EY aptitude test is scored separately, and any one of them can end the application.
What Is the EY Online Assessment?
It is the umbrella term for the timed reasoning at the screening stage: on the UK and US graduate route, numerical, verbal, and an inductive or logical section, unproctored. Tests of this kind allow around a minute a question, and they score by comparison with a reference sample instead of a syllabus, which is how the UK graduate careers service describes psychometric testing.
Two to Four EY Online Assessments, Depending on Country and Role
Two to four before interview, depending on whether the reasoning battery counts as one item or three. The invitation email names yours, with their windows.
What Is EY Job Simulation?
It puts you inside a fictional client scenario for about an hour, across roughly fourteen tasks, and asks for recorded video answers to two or three of them. The recording runs on a fixed clock: about two minutes to prepare an answer, about two minutes to record it, and one take with no second attempt. Psychometric Success publishes those video timings; PracticeAptitudeTests publishes the fourteen tasks and the hour. Nobody is on the other end, and the countdown is on screen the whole time.
Which EY Aptitude Test You Sit Depends on Where You Applied
Two entirely different versions of the aptitude test Ernst and Young runs rank for this one search, and the wrong preparation costs you the invitation. The global graduate route runs a reasoning battery plus a job simulation. The India campus route runs a placement paper: quantitative, verbal, and logical sections in one block.
The one-line check. An invitation mentioning a job simulation, a strengths assessment, or a recorded video answer is the global graduate route. One naming quantitative, verbal, and logical sections in a single eighty-minute sitting is the India campus paper.
Two different EY tests rank for one search term, and only the invitation email tells you which one you are sitting.
Is the EY Aptitude Test the Same in India as the UK and US?
No, and not by a small margin. The EY aptitude test pattern published for freshers in India describes four sections at roughly twenty minutes each, about eighty in total: quantitative aptitude, verbal ability, logical reasoning, and a situational block. It also reports no deduction for an incorrect response, so an unanswered item on this paper simply scores nothing while a guessed one can still score. A fresher who runs out of time in the logical block and leaves the remaining items untouched gives away marks that were free to attempt. That single rule reverses the advice written for the global route. The same fork sits under one oil and gas search, and under one banking acronym.
The EY Pymetrics Game Assessment Turns Up by Region, Australia Included
Some regions add a Pymetrics-style game assessment: short timed tasks measuring attention and risk appetite rather than reasoning. It is reported in Australia and parts of Europe, and absent from most UK and India descriptions. The games have no right answers to drill for.
EY Screens for Strengths Where Deloitte and KPMG Screen for Competencies
The three firms diverge at the behavioural stage. EY leans on strengths, asking what you do naturally; competency questioning, the Deloitte and KPMG staple, wants a past situation evidenced against a criterion. A competency answer can be built in advance, and a strengths answer cannot, because the interviewer reads consistency across a run of questions.

Every Section of the EY Aptitude Test, With Its Published Time Limit
Every section, its published length, and the route it belongs to. These are publishers’ figures: EY confirms none, none carries a date, and several disagree, so both appear here.
| Section | Questions published | Time published | Route | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Numerical reasoning | 12 to 15, or 24 | 20 or 25 minutes | Global graduate | Psychometric Success (12 to 15 in 20 minutes); PracticeAptitudeTests (24 in 20); CareerTestPrep (25 minutes) |
| Verbal reasoning | not published | 25 minutes | Global graduate | CareerTestPrep |
| Inductive or logical | not published | 20 minutes | Global graduate | CareerTestPrep |
| Situational judgement and strengths | not published | 15 to 30 minutes | Global graduate | JobTestPrep (strengths, 15 to 30); PracticeAptitudeTests (situational, 30) |
| Job simulation | about 14 tasks | about 60 minutes | Global graduate | PracticeAptitudeTests; video timings from Psychometric Success |
| Quantitative, verbal, logical, situational | not published | about 20 minutes each, 80 total | India campus | Unstop |
Named pages are the five results ranking for this search, read on 10 September 2026. Not one dates its own figures, which is why the column exists: check any row against the page that published it.
Every figure in that table is a publisher’s claim, not EY’s. Plan against the range, and assume your invitation screen overrides it.
How Long Is the EY Aptitude Test?
Twenty to twenty-five minutes a section, and no published figure for the whole thing that two pages agree on. On the most specific account, CareerTestPrep’s, twenty-five minutes for numerical, twenty-five for verbal, twenty for inductive. With the strengths component the timed stage sits inside roughly ninety minutes, and need not be sat in one evening. The India paper is one block of about eighty. The EY aptitude test time limit that governs you is the one on your own invitation screen.
How Many Questions Are on the EY Aptitude Test?
Between twelve and twenty-eight on the numerical section, depending on which page you read, and only two of those counts have a page standing behind them. Psychometric Success publishes twelve to fifteen; PracticeAptitudeTests publishes twenty-four. Twenty-eight and fourteen circulate in forum reprints with no page willing to own them: hearsay. The disagreement between the first two is mostly age, since batteries get re-versioned and a description written against the 2022 version still reads as fact three years later. Plan for the ratio: twenty-four questions in twenty minutes is fifty seconds each, twelve in twenty is a hundred. Only one leaves room to check your work.
SHL, Cappfinity, EY One Assessment: Only One Name Is on the Record
One published account names SHL’s TalentCentral as the battery behind the global route, one names Cappfinity without confirming it, and most name nobody. EY One Assessment is the firm’s own label for the sequence, not a publisher’s product. Drill generic SHL-style material, and treat anything sold as the EY test itself as a reconstruction.

Ernst and Young Aptitude Test Questions and Answers, Worked at Test Pace
Easy samples are worse than none: they set the wrong pace expectation. What follows is one item per section of the aptitude test Ernst and Young sets, at the difficulty the timed stage runs at, each solved against the clock rather than at leisure.
A Worked EY Numerical Reasoning Question: Rank by Rise Over Base
Advisory fees billed, in millions. Which region grew fastest in percentage terms? Give yourself fifty seconds, starting now.
| Region | FY24 fees | FY25 fees | Partners in region |
|---|---|---|---|
| North | 42.0 | 47.5 | 18 |
| Central | 61.5 | 68.0 | 26 |
| South | 28.4 | 33.9 | 11 |
| West | 19.6 | 21.0 | 9 |
South. Central rose most in money, by 6.5 million, and grew slowest of the three large regions. North and South rose by the same 5.5 million, so whichever started lower grew faster, and South started thirteen and a half million lower: roughly nineteen percent against North’s thirteen. West rose 1.4 on a base of 19.6, near seven.
You divided nothing precisely, and you ignored an entire column. Partner headcount is there to be ignored: a data interpretation table always carries a column the question never uses, and reading it costs the fifteen seconds you needed at the end. Two rises were identical, which collapses the question to one glance at the starting figures, and the third fell to an estimate: 6.5 into 61.5 is near a tenth. On a data interpretation item, rank by rise over base and estimate before you divide.
A Worked EY Inductive Reasoning Item: Name the Rule Before You Read the Options
Series: B, D, G, K, P, ?
Options: S, T, U, V.
V. The rule, said out loud: the gap grows by one each step. B to D skips one letter, D to G skips two, G to K skips three, K to P skips four, so the next skips five and lands on V. Say the rule before you look at the options, because two of them fit a plausible wrong rule: S if the gap stays at three, T if you lose count by one. Both are there for the candidate who pattern-matches against the answers instead of the series.
A Worked Verbal Item Where Cannot Say Is the Only Defensible Answer
Passage: EY’s Manchester audit intake grew from 90 graduates to 140 last year. Every one of the 140 had sat the online assessment before interview.
Statement: more graduates passed EY’s online assessment in Manchester last year than the year before.
Cannot say. The passage counts people hired; the statement counts people who passed, and it never says the earlier cohort sat anything. A verbal reasoning statement usually swaps one noun for a neighbouring one, and the swap is the whole question.
A Worked EY Placement Paper Item, Solved Under the No-Negative-Marking Rule
This one is from the India campus track, where the aptitude test Ernst and Young sets runs as a placement paper. A processing team clears 480 filings in 8 hours. After a system upgrade it clears the same 480 filings in 6 hours. By what percentage did its hourly rate rise? Options: 20 percent, 25 percent, 33 percent, 40 percent.
33 percent. Sixty filings an hour became eighty, and 20 on a base of 60 is a third. The faster route never computes the second rate: the time fell by a quarter, so the rate has to rise by more than a quarter, which kills 20 and 25 before you touch the arithmetic.
Now the rule that changes how you sit this paper. No deduction applies for a wrong answer on the campus track, so an unanswered item is the only one guaranteed to score nothing. With forty seconds left and three items untouched, mark all three. On a paper with no negative marking, a blank is a wrong answer you did not even get paid to guess. That rule is local to India. On the global battery accuracy against a norm group is what gets read, and spraying answers at the last four items moves you down.
A Worked EY Situational Judgement Test Answer, Ranked Not Picked
Two days from a client deadline, a junior says a figure in the draft looks wrong but cannot say why. Put these in order, strongest response first.
- Walk through the figure with them now and trace it to source.
- Escalate, so the deadline call is the engagement manager’s.
- Ask them to put the concern in writing.
- Note it, submit, raise it in review.
Checking costs minutes and the exposure is a wrong number in front of a client. Escalating is premature rather than wrong, and submitting first is the only option that lets a known risk reach the client. Notice you ranked rather than chose. The ordering carries the signal, and consistency across a run of items carries more than any single ranking.
Every EY Aptitude Test Questions and Answers PDF Online Is a Reconstruction
There is no official EY aptitude test questions and answers PDF, because EY publishes no study materials and no sample paper. Every file under that name is publisher-style questions rebadged, or a reconstruction typed from memory by someone who sat a version since retired. The same holds for EY placement papers with solutions and the situational judgement test answers traded in forums.
The material is not worthless: generic EY numerical reasoning test practice is close enough in shape to build speed, and memorising specific items is the wasted part. For practice on the EY job simulation and online assessment with honest provenance, publishers offer free untimed samples and most university careers services hold a licence.

The Aptitude Test Ernst and Young Uses Is Scored on a Percentile, Not a Pass Mark
On the global graduate route your raw score becomes a percentile against a norm group: a reference sample of graduate test takers the publisher has already measured. Seventy percent correct is not a score; the seventieth percentile means seventy percent of that group did worse. You are ranked against a reference group of graduates, not marked against a syllabus.
Norm-referenced scoring is standard for occupational testing in the UK, where the British Psychological Society sets the standards publishers work to. The consequence: the same performance clears the bar in a quiet year and misses it in a competitive one.
What SHL Score Do You Need for EY?
Roughly the seventieth percentile against a graduate norm group, on the only page that commits to a number at all, and that page gives no source and no date. Every other EY aptitude test cut off score repeats that figure or says benchmark. Treat seventy as a working target that moves by service line, country, and applicant volume.
What Is the Pass Rate of EY Assessments?
Nobody outside EY knows, because the firm has never published one. The forum figures, usually a fifth to a half of applicants clearing the online stage, are candidate estimates from self-selected samples. What can be said without inventing anything: this stage exists to cut a very large pool to an interviewable one, and a firm running that filter is not trying to pass most people.
Clearing the EY Online Assessment Means Steady Accuracy at Speed
Two candidates fail here for opposite reasons. One rushes, attempts everything, gets half wrong, lands mid-pack. The other reads carefully, answers eight of twenty-four correctly, leaves sixteen blank. The second is the commoner failure and the easier fix. The job simulation marks reasoning, not delivery: say why you chose what you chose.

The EY Aptitude Test Is School-Level Maths Under a Graduate Clock
Nothing on the aptitude test Ernst and Young sends is advanced. The numerical section is percentages, ratios, and reading a table; the verbal section is comprehension; the inductive section is pattern spotting a bright fourteen-year-old could do untimed. Difficulty comes from two places and neither is the syllabus: under a minute a question, and a field of graduate applicants instead of a fixed line. The pace and the field are what make this test hard to clear, and neither is something you can revise.
Are the Ernst and Young Tests Hard?
Not the questions. The clock. Ask anyone who has sat one and the answer comes back the same way: it was not difficult, there just was not time. At fifty seconds a question you can read the table, do the arithmetic, and answer, or you can verify. Not both. Difficulty on the EY aptitude test is therefore a question about habits, and if you check everything twice by instinct the fix is a rule: answer, move on, let the estimate stand. The split between grading what you learned and forecasting what you might learn is in what a school exam grades and a battery predicts.
Getting an EY Interview Means Clearing Two Screens Before a Human Reads You
The application form and the online assessment are both filters, and neither is read by a person on the first pass, so the difficulty is front-loaded into a stage that returns no feedback. Once through, the ratio improves sharply: the remaining stages are run by people carrying a hiring target.
A Two-Week Plan for the Ernst and Young Aptitude Test, Costed in Hours
An invitation to the aptitude test Ernst and Young sends usually expires within five to seven days, so two weeks is the plan for when you can see the application coming, and its first four days are the plan for when you cannot. Fourteen hours in total, and returns fall away fast past that.
Days One to Four: Timed Data Interpretation for the EY Online Assessment
Six hours, in forty-minute blocks, and data interpretation goes first because it is the heaviest topic there. Set the timer at fifty seconds a question from the first session, because untimed practice builds a habit you then have to unlearn. Two hours on percentages, ratios, and percentage change without a calculator. Two on tables and charts against the clock. Two on verbal comprehension.
Days Five to Ten: One Full Mock of the Aptitude Test Ernst and Young Sets
Five hours, one of them a single full mock sat properly: phone in another room, no pausing, no second attempt, at the hour you plan to sit the real thing. A mock you interrupt teaches you nothing about the one variable being tested. The other four go on whatever it exposed, usually arithmetic speed. Inductive reasoning takes one regardless: the rules repeat, and after forty items you recognise them.
Days Eleven to Fourteen: Strengths Questions Read Against EY’s Core Values
Three hours, none of it revision. The strengths and situational components measure fit against EY’s own behavioural model, and the firm publishes the values that model rests on: people who demonstrate integrity, respect, teaming and inclusiveness; people with energy, enthusiasm and the courage to lead; people who build relationships based on doing the right thing. Read them once, then stop, because rehearsing them is the failure mode. Write down five things you do at work that you would still do with nobody watching, and five you are competent at and avoid. The same trait gets measured several times in different clothes, so an idealised candidate reads as inconsistent.
Spend forty minutes of that on the recording itself. Pick two strengths questions, film your answers on your phone under the real clock, two minutes to think and two to talk, one take each, then watch them back once. Almost everyone finds the same two things: they run out of road at ninety seconds, and they talk to the ceiling instead of the lens. Both are fixable in one more take, and neither is fixable on the day, which is the whole argument for doing it before the aptitude test Ernst and Young sends you lands.

A Failed EY Aptitude Test Ends This Application, Not Your Candidacy
Clear the online stage and you go to the job simulation or a strengths interview, then an assessment centre. Miss it and the application closes by email, without a score, and the aptitude test Ernst and Young sent you becomes the only stage that ever read you.
Can I Retake the EY Aptitude Test if I Don’t Perform Well?
Not in the same cycle. There is no global retake rule, and what is reported is a reapplication window rather than a re-sit: six months before you may apply again to the same programme, twelve in some countries. A failed attempt closes that application, and no published rule attaches it to an unrelated one years later. Results sit with the application they were taken for, so a later cycle means a new test. Assessment-centre exercises are fresh tests with their own marks, not re-sits, so a marginal online score is not re-litigated in the room.
Three moves that same week, none of them buying a better practice pack. Ask the recruiter, in writing, which stage ended it; some will say, and the answer decides what you fix. Find when the next intake posts, because graduate cycles reopen on a calendar rather than on your readiness, most of them in August and September for the following autumn. And put two other firms’ assessments inside the next fortnight, while the drills are still warm, since every large employer runs a battery of the same shape.
Then the window itself. Nobody moves a percentile by reading about percentiles, so spend six to twelve months changing an input instead: one internship, one project with numbers in it, or one term of timed practice at fifty seconds a question. Only the third reliably moves this particular score. The other two move the stages after it.
The EY Assessment Centre: Group Exercise, Case Study, Partner Interview
By the time you reach it the aptitude test Ernst and Young sent you is behind you, and nothing in the room re-runs it. Three exercises are reported, in some order across a half or full day. A group exercise, where four or five of you work a business problem together and the assessor watches how you make room for other people rather than how often you speak. A case study, a pack of client material you read, analyse, and present back or write up. And a partner interview, the one stage where the person opposite can decide on the spot.
PracticeAptitudeTests publishes the two exercise timings as fifteen and thirty minutes without saying which belongs to which; JobTestPrep puts EY interviews at twenty-five to sixty minutes. Assume the shorter number is your preparation window and the longer one is the exercise. Every exercise here is marked fresh, so the assessment centre is the first stage where a person, not a percentile, decides.
After the EY Job Simulation, One to Three Weeks of Silence Is Normal
Reported waits run from a few days to three weeks, longer at peak season, and the length signals nothing about your result. Chase once, politely, after two weeks, to the recruiter named on your invitation.
The Ernst and Young Recruitment Process Runs Six to Twelve Weeks End to End
Application to offer commonly takes six to twelve weeks, the online assessment in week one or two and the assessment centre in the second half. Build your fortnight around the invitation, not the closing date. What an assessment centre involves rewards knowing the format in advance.

An EY Aptitude Test Score Is EY’s Answer to EY’s Question
There is a question this test answers and a question it does not, and they blur when you are two days out. The second outlasts the application by about forty years.
EY is asking whether you clear its speed and accuracy bar on one morning, against this season’s applicants. You are asking whether Big Four advisory is where your capability points once the first eighteen months stop being new.
The Aptitude Test Ernst and Young Uses Measures One Morning of Speed
An employer aptitude test is a filter, and a good one for what it does: arithmetic, comprehension, and pattern recognition under pressure, inside a thirty-minute window, on a Tuesday. It does not sample stamina, the fourth month of an engagement that keeps slipping, or whether audit conditions suit you. Those decide who stays. The behavioural half of a battery is unpacked in what an aptitude and behavioral test scores.
A Career Aptitude Test Asks Where Your Capability Points Over Years
Was the job the problem, or the setting? For 43 percent of the 1,528 professionals in Pigment’s study, it was the setting. 43 percent landed the right profession and the wrong daily conditions for it. Worn down by the shape of the work, not by its difficulty.
A forced-choice instrument answers it differently. Sitting the Pigment career test, you cannot say that both the month-end audit push and the open-ended research project suit you; each item makes you take one, and the taking is the measurement. What comes back is a read on the fourth month of that slipping engagement: whether the month-end audit push is the week that sharpens you, and whether a year of deadlines that keep moving would leave you steadier or hollowed out.
One limit matters more than the rest here: it is built for people some years into a career, a median of around thirteen, and it is no help at all for clearing anything EY sends. If your assessment is Thursday, sit the assessment. Nothing in it reaches an employer, and no recruiter sees the output. Behind it sits decades of work on how people fare in settings that suit them. Behind the questionnaire sits no outside trial, which is the size of the claim it can make.
Know where your capability points.
It answers the other question, for $99: which working weeks sharpen you, and which roles are built that way.
See what fits you →EY Aptitude Test FAQs
“How long does the EY online assessment take?”
Twenty to twenty-five minutes a section on the global route, so roughly ninety minutes across the whole timed stage, and it need not be sat in one evening. The India campus paper is a single block of about eighty minutes. The figure that governs you is the one on your own invitation screen.
“How to pass EY online assessment?”
Answer accurately at pace and finish the paper. Leaving items blank is the commoner failure, not rushing. Practise at fifty seconds a question, and sit the paper with a physical calculator rather than the on-screen one, which is slower than a keypad.
“What is the difficulty level of the EY Aptitude Test?”
School-level content at a graduate pace. Percentages, ratios, reading a table, and comprehension, none of it advanced, at under a minute a question and ranked against this season’s applicants rather than against a fixed mark.
“How hard is it to get an EY interview?”
Harder than the interview. The application form and the online assessment are both filters, neither read by a person on the first pass, and neither returns feedback. Past them the ratio improves sharply: the stages after are run by people carrying a hiring target.
“How do I prepare for an EY online assessment?”
Fourteen hours, front-loaded onto timed data interpretation, with one full mock sat under real conditions and three hours on the strengths component you cannot revise for. The two-week plan above sets out where each hour goes.
“How do I prepare for a job simulation assessment at EY?”
Rehearse the mechanics, not the answers. About two minutes to prepare and two to record, one take: film two practice answers on your phone under that clock and watch them back. The simulation marks the reasoning you show, so say why you chose what you chose.
“What are Ernst and Young’s core values?”
EY publishes three: people who demonstrate integrity, respect, teaming and inclusiveness; people with energy, enthusiasm and the courage to lead; people who build relationships based on doing the right thing. The strengths and situational sections are read for fit against that model, which is why they have no right answers to revise for.
“Where can I get practice questions for EY job simulation and online assessment?”
Publisher free samples, and your university careers service, which usually holds a licence for a full practice battery. Neither matches your paper. Both fix your pace, which is the part worth fixing.
“Are there any official study materials for the EY Aptitude Test?”
No. EY publishes no sample paper and no study pack, so every file sold as the official one is either publisher-style questions rebadged or a reconstruction typed from memory.
“Does EY use Pymetrics in Australia?”
A Pymetrics-style game assessment is reported in Australia and parts of Europe, and it is absent from most UK and India descriptions. CareerTestPrep is the page that flags it, and it flags it as regional rather than universal. The games have no right answers to drill.
“Does EY do in-person aptitude test re-sits at the assessment centre?”
No published rule says so. The assessment-centre exercises are fresh tests carrying their own marks, not a second run at the online battery, so a marginal reasoning score is not re-litigated in the room.
“The EY test platform crashed mid-assessment. What now?”
Screenshot the error with a visible timestamp, do not restart the test, and email the recruiter on your invitation the same day. The reset has to come from their side, and restarting can log an incomplete attempt.
“How do you get extra time or an adjustment on the EY aptitude test?”
Ask in writing, before you start. Employers must make reasonable adjustments for job applicants as well as staff, which Acas sets out plainly and the Equality Act 2010 frames as a duty to make adjustments. Asking afterwards is weaker ground.
